The Skinny On Meal Prep & Delivery Companies
By: Micaela Whitworth, Love Your Bod Founder
Meal prep is the process of planning, cooking and portioning out your meals in advance for the week ahead. You can decide to prepare your lunches for the week, lunches and dinners, or even all the above and snacks, too. The amount of meal prep that you do largely depends on how much time you want to invest in it.

Although meal prepping may seem like a daunting task, it doesn’t have to be. If done correctly, you’ll be less likely to deviate from your eating plan and you’ll find it can free up more of your time during the week.
Let me take you through my typical “meal prep” and you’ll see just how easy it is to incorporate meal prep into your life.
Each week on Thursday, I’ll spend no more than 15 minutes searching for recipe ideas online or I’ll flip through the recipes of LYB. Instead of using your extra time to browse through Facebook, why not use those minutes towards effectively bettering your health! Personally, I don’t find this to be a chore. There is never a shortage of innovative, quick and healthy recipe ideas online. I’ll choose about 3-5 recipes and write out my grocery list.

I then pick up most of my groceries on a Saturday and will devote some time on Sunday to “prepping.” I know that not everyone likes to cook which makes meal prepping a lot harder so scroll to the bottom of the page if this is you!
I personally enjoy cooking so I will put on some music and make an event out of it. Lip syncing to some Beyonce while busting a move and chopping up veggies isn’t so bad. If you have kids, you can even get them involved, too, and make it a family affair.
I’ll spend about 10 minutes prepping for breakfasts. I typically make “Egg Muffins.” For the egg white muffins, all you need to do is lightly spray a muffin tin with oil and then fill each tin with a few tablespoons of chopped veggies and protein. You then fill the tins to the top with liquid egg whites and bake in the oven for 20 minutes at 350 F. Voila! Your breakfasts for the week are completed.

For lunches, I might prep some Mason Jar Salads, which I usually only make enough for about 3 days in order to keep things as fresh as possible. On Wednesday evening I’d then prep my last few for the week.

For dinners, I’ll have chosen a recipe that I can make in a larger batch, something such as Burrito Bowls, and I will portion and store everything in my exact dietary requirements based on my eating plan and then for the rest of the week, I won’t have to cook.

If I’m feeling super keen, I’ll also make homemade protein bars or muffins, which are usually as easy as blending a handful of ingredients into a blender and baking for about 15 minutes. I’m not usually that keen though! lol.
Generally, 50-75% of my weekly meals end up being taken care of by meal prep and it usually takes me between 1-3 hours. Although it is a bit of work on a Sunday, it allows me more free time during the week to enjoy my morning coffee and spend my evenings doing fun activities with loved ones.
Now, this isn’t the ONLY way to meal prep, but it’s one of the many ways it can be done.
Another way to do it – Order online from a Meal Prep Delivery Company who will do all the work for you. This isn’t cheap, but it’s convenient and there are SO many different companies to choose from.

I have done this in the past and its so much easier to stay on track as you don’t have to think about recipes you’re going to make, you don’t have to coordinate your recipes with your grocery list, you don’t have to grocery shop, and you don’t have to cook anything!
I can’t really afford to use a service like this on a regular basis, but I do treat myself occasionally if I know my husband and I are going through a bit of a chaotic period schedule-wise.
Meal Kit Delivery companies are also becoming super popular. This is where you still get to cook, but the exact ingredients and recipes are shipped right to your door! If you’re new to cooking it’s a great way to learn!
